UPSC ETHICS MORAL THINKERS

HOW TO APPROACH THE MORAL THINKERS PART IN THE GS4 SECTION:

There is a lot to study and read when it comes to the moral thinkers in upsc ethics GS4. But what a civil service aspirant should focus on is not "what to study "rather what "not to study".
Smart work in this area can save a lot of time of aspirants which can be fruitfully utilized for covering other sections. Let me tell you that there are more than 500 western philosophical thinkers and more than 100 Indians. But reading about all will become cumbersome with aspirants totally losing out interests in this section. Rather than doing GADHA MAJURI we will do HOSHIYARI and study only a handful of such thinkers.
To make your life easier, we have divided thinkers as WESTERN THINKERS AND INDIAN THINKERS.

WESTERN THINKERS:

  1. SOCRATES
  2. PLATO
  3. ARISTOTLE
  4. JEREMY BENTHAM
  5. IMMANUEL KANT
  6. AYN RAND
INDIAN THINKERS:
  1. BUDDHA
  2. CHANAKYA
  3. GANDHI
  4. VIVEKANAND
  5. B.R AMBEDKAR.
We shall only focus on these and if need be we will also study the thinkers which were previously asked by UPSC in mains examination.

The aspirant should be clear of one thing that he/she wants to write good content in the mains exam and not become philosophers themselves. So its always advisable that they concentrate on the topic and not do detailed research about any thinker.

BUT FROM WHERE TO READ, FROM WHERE TO STUDY, IS ANY MATERIAL AVAILABLE FOR FREE ON THE INTERNET?

Well, to answer, in short, we need at least 2-3 sources to refer to.
BUT, if you refer to my blogs alone along with the assignments I 'll be giving --- you can cover more than 90 percent of your syllabus and can write the answer on any question asked from this section.

The sources which I have referred to are Lexicon, Santosh Ajmera's book on ethics, and the Internet (extensively).
